U.S National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has called the leak on Signal chat regarding Yemen strikes “embarrassing” while also accepting blame for it. The chat was also joined by a journalist from The Atlantic.

In his interview with Fox News on March 25, Waltz defended himself by saying that the sensitive details of the U.S. attacks on Yemen were not classified, therefore, the chat created by him was legal.

He said: “It’s embarrassing, yes. We are going to get to the bottom of it. We have, I just talked to Elon (Musk) on the way here. We have the best technical minds looking at how this happened. But I can tell you, I can tell you for 100%, I don’t know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation and he really is bottom scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president, but I don’t text him. He wasn’t on my phone.”

Mike Waltz stood by his remarks claiming that it was his responsibility to ensure all officials were on the Signal chat and there was coordination.

“Look I take full responsibility. I built the, I built the group, my job is to make sure everything is coordinated,” added Waltz.

President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to limit the damage from Jeffrey Goldberg’s March 24 article for The Atlantic, where he disclosed that he was part of a Signal group with Trump’s top national security aides where they were whiteboarding Yemen missions.

Goldberg claims, for example, that Pete Hegseth gave him the details of the strikes, including inline sequencing of targets, weapons, and timing which were read from a mobile phone while in a supermarket parking lot.

Regardless of the worries, Trump’s administration continues to assert that no classified information was revealed which has baffled and angered most of the Democrats and former officials. Tulsi Gabbard and John Ratcliffe, for example, already gave blanket statements denying the existence of classified information but placed the responsibility of such decisions on Hegseth.

When asked whether more information would come from the discussion, Waltz said “I don’t want it out there” when asked by Fox News. Mike Waltz said, “We made a mistake,” but said “I’m more interested in looking forward,” vowing to “keep delivering for this president.”
