New Zealand dominated the first T20 international against Pakistan, winning by nine wickets at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. After losing the toss and going into bat, Pakistan struggled on New Zealand’s pace attack, only able to beat 91 runs. Kyle Jamieson’s three-wicket haul for Jamieson’s eight runs in three overs aided Pakistan’s downfall. Duffy’s four wickets for fourteen operating on a third of the runs aided New Zealand too. Even with early resistance from Kuishdil Shah, who managed to score 32, Pakistan’s frame of mind could not be salvaged.

With ease New Zealand chased down the target, getting to one wicket down 92 runs in 10.1 overs. With stunning rates Tim Seifert performed best out of the New Zealand side with 44 off of 29 while Finn Allen and Robinson contributed their scores of 29 and 18 sequentially. Seifert’s innings furthered New Zealand to cruise their wins and get two in a row.

Ahmed Shehzad, an ex Pakistan opening batsman believed more changes on admins agenda cancelled any changes of improvement from the professional bowling unit. These feelings stemmed from Shadab Khan’s invite to the set who Shehzad believed went beyond purely cricketing consideration.

On 18th March, Pakistan meet to contend with New Zealand in Dunedin for match number two of their five match series. In this game, the Pakistan side vehemently need to set a draw leaving them on an even split for the series.
