The Department of Telecommunications has issued a new rule for issuing SIM cards to telecom operators. Given the fraud related to SIM cards, the government keeps changing the rules related to SIM cards from time to time. Recently, the government had issued a new rule regarding buying SIM cards in bulk. This rule can prove to help prevent online fraud. Let’s know about this new rule related to SIM cards…
Restrictions on buying SIM cards in bulk
DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunications has issued new instructions to private companies to buy SIM cards in bulk. Now any private company can buy a maximum of 100 SIM cards at a time. If a company needs more than 100 SIM cards, then the MD of the company will have to request for it. Also, e-verification will have to be done. This means that if the company needs 1000 SIM cards, then e-verification will have to be done 10 times. SIM cards will be issued only after the verification process is completed.
The government is strict given the increasing cases of fraud related to SIM cards. Due to this rule made for issuing SIM cards, along with preventing online fraud, the increasing number of SIM cards can also be curbed. Now only 100 SIM cards will be issued at a time to issue corporate connections to private companies.
What was the rule earlier?
There was no limit on issuing SIM cards to private companies for corporate connections. Private companies could buy unlimited SIM cards from the service provider in one go. Now if a corporate SIM is issued to an employee, the employee will have to get the SIM card e-verified himself. After this, KYC details will have to be completed. The SIM card will be activated only after it is updated. Earlier this was not done. Earlier corporate SIMs were easily issued.
