The trailer of Netflix’s documentary ‘Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli’ was released on Monday. Directed by Raghav Khanna, this documentary gives a glimpse into the life and creative process of one of India’s most celebrated filmmakers. However, the trailer has ignited a wave of discontent among Telugu film industry fans.

Why Telugu version of the trailer is getting trolled

Fans are not happy with the Telugu version of the trailer as it features dubbing of Telugu-speaking celebrities rather than the original voices. Notably, except for James Cameron, all key personalities in the film – SS Rajamouli, Prabhas, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Rama Rajamouli, and MM Keeravaani – are native Telugu speakers. The subpar dubbing quality has deeply disappointed fans, who are dismayed by the replacement of their favourite stars’ voices with inferior dubs.

Outraged Tollywood fans have taken to social media to express their displeasure, demanding that Netflix discard the poorly dubbed version. They view this move as an insult to the stars and the Telugu-speaking audience.

A user wrote, “Telugu heros ki Telugu dubbing.” Another comment read, “You’re making a documentary about a Telugu director, and what is this Telugu dubbing, man?” “For the first time in my life, it feels like I shouldn’t watch this in Telugu,” wrote another user.

About Modern Masters: SS Rajamoul trailer

The trailer highlights accolades from industry colleagues while candidly addressing critiques of his intense work ethic. It begins with Rajamouli expressing his passion for storytelling: “I want to tell an incredible story. I want people to get invested in the movie.”

Following this, his ‘RRR’ star Jr NTR asserts, “This person is born to make movies. He is born to tell stories that haven’t been told.” Prabhas, famed for his role in ‘Baahubali,’ describes Rajamouli as “a mad person, that’s all,” underscoring his distinctive creative brilliance.

The trailer also features an unexpected appearance by Canadian filmmaker James Cameron, who lauds Rajamouli’s accomplishments, stating that he has earned the respect to collaborate with anyone in the industry. Another ‘RRR’ actor, Ram Charan, expresses his amazement when watching Rajamouli’s films, marveling at his involvement in such monumental productions.

Despite the praise, the documentary does not shy away from the challenges of working with Rajamouli. His collaborators openly discuss his relentless dedication to storytelling and creating grand action scenes. Ram Charan recalls instances on set where Rajamouli’s intense focus led to technical mishaps, such as breaking microphones. Jr NTR adds, “You sit with him, you start feeling that he’s got no empathy at all. He’s a madman, and there’s no point in arguing with him.”
