Worm-Infested Eggs Discovered in Blinkit Order Sparks Health Department Raid in Mangaluru
Growing consumer reliance on quick-commerce platforms has hit a major roadblock regarding food safety as regulatory authorities tighten their grip on online grocery deliveries. Following a consumer complaint alleging that live worms were found inside packaged eggs ordered through Blinkit, the Karnataka Health Department launched an immediate enforcement raid on the company’s storage and distribution facility in मंगलुरु (Mangaluru).
Health Department Raid at Falnir Square Blinkit Outlet
Acting swiftly upon the consumer grievance, health inspectors and food safety officers conducted a surprise inspection at the Blinkit outlet situated in Falnir Square, Mangaluru. During the thorough check, officials uncovered multiple batches of compromised and defective egg packets. Authorities immediately ordered the facility to clear and discard the substandard stock, highlighting severe lapses in quality control, cold-chain preservation, and warehouse hygiene standards by quick-commerce aggregators.
A Growing Trend of Regulatory Crackdowns on Quick-Commerce Warehouses
This incident in Mangaluru follows a string of recent punitive actions against major online grocery players across India. Last month, regulatory authorities inspected a Zepto warehouse in Bengaluru, uncovering alarming violations that included organic waste accumulation, discarded wrappers, empty bottles, improper product labeling, and unhygienic food storage conditions, which resulted in the facility being sealed with official notices. Concurrently, national food watchdogs, including the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and state FDA wings, have scaled up inspections from Mumbai to Delhi. Notably, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration recently suspended the state food license of Blink Commerce Pvt Ltd in Akola following re-inspections that exposed persistent non-compliance with hygiene norms, fueling widespread public debate over the safety of rapid grocery delivery services.
