Appraisal committee recommends 07 proposals under the Food Processing Industry Policy-2023; local farmers and rural women to benefit directly: Keshav Prasad Maurya
Under the directives of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya, continuous and effective steps are being taken to boost the food processing industry, create employment opportunities in rural areas, and economically empower women. In this context, a total of seven proposals were recommended for approval during a meeting of the Appraisal Committee constituted under the U.P. Food Processing Industry Policy-2023. These proposals will foster investment and production in sectors such as food processing, solar energy, cattle feed, and ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products. Shri Maurya stated that the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is for rural women not merely to remain beneficiaries but to become active participants and entrepreneurs across the entire economic value chain—from production to marketing. He emphasized that the development of self-reliant families, villages, and a self-reliant Uttar Pradesh is possible only by economically strengthening women, and the state is advancing the resolve of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) at every level.
The proposals considered in the meeting included the installation of a 95 kW solar power plant at the fortified rice unit of M/s Shri Sadguru Industries Pvt. Ltd. (Azamgarh); a 356 kWp on-grid solar power plant at the flour mill of M/s IP Food Products Pvt. Ltd. (Pilibhit); and 50 kVA solar power plants at 'Credence Nutrition Mahila Prerna Small Industries' and 'Unnati Prerna Mahila Laghu Udyog' in Budaun. Additionally, recommendations were made for a 55 kVA solar power plant at 'Poshak Prerna Mahila Laghu Udyog' (Banda), the expansion of a cattle feed unit in Gorakhpur, and the establishment of a new cattle feed unit in Bahraich.
The committee recommended submitting these proposals—in accordance with the policy provisions—to the SLEC (State Level Empowered Committee), subject to the condition that the concerned firms provide a certificate confirming at least 85% capacity utilization of their existing food processing units, along with CA-certified income tax and GST returns for the past two years. Certified copies will be made available within the stipulated timeframe. Additionally, the investor will be responsible for prioritizing local farmers for the supply of raw materials and for obtaining the necessary site plans, maps, and certificates related to fire safety and pollution control.
Shri Maurya stated, "The Uttar Pradesh government is working to provide employment to rural women and transform them into entrepreneurs through food processing initiatives and the State Rural Livelihood Mission. Today, our sisters and daughters are working shoulder-to-shoulder to produce a wide range of household goods and food products, including milk, spices, incense sticks, and candles. They are actively participating in business operations, setting up their own units, and engaging in various commercial activities. The government will support them at every level."
