PM Modi arrives in Seychelles on 3-day state visit; to address National Assembly
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived in Seychelles on a state visit. The Prime Minister will be a special guest in the country from 27th to 29th June to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day. The invitation to the Prime Minister was extended by Dr. Patrick Herminy, President of the Republic of Seychelles. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Modi said in a statement, "Seychelles is an important maritime neighbour of India and an important partner in India's shared commitment to Vision Ocean and the Global South. The meeting will further enhance the long-standing friendship between the two countries after President Herminie's visit to India in February 2026.
The Prime Minister will be the first Indian PM to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. This is a reflection of the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions of the two countries.
Seychelles is an important element of India’s maritime security in the Indian Ocean region
Seychelles is an important link in India’s chain of maritime security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region. The archipelago is in the western Indian Ocean, a region of critical sea lanes. Under the “Ocean” vision, India is stepping up cooperation with Seychelles in areas like maritime domain awareness, anti-piracy, blue economy and climate protection.
The large Exclusive Economic Zone and fisheries-tourism based economy of Seychelles provides opportunities for Blue Economy partnerships for India.
“We have a 50-year friendship between the two countries.
It may be noted that two ships of the Indian Navy and a contingent of the armed forces will also participate in the ceremony. Seychelles is a small island country but it has a very important geographical position in the Indian Ocean. The two countries have a 50-year friendship based on democracy, respect for diversity and deep cultural ties between the people.
PM Modi will also engage with the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles which has acted as a bridge between the two countries for generations, reinforcing cultural and economic bonds.
This visit will promote security, economic prosperity and a rules-based maritime order in the Indian Ocean region. Together, India and Seychelles will amplify the voice of the Global South and promote a common vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
