NEET Paper Leak Row: Rahul Gandhi and INDIA Alliance Leaders March to Gandhi Smriti to Honor Deceased Students
Amid nationwide anger and ongoing demonstrations over the NEET exam paper leak controversy, top INDIA alliance leaders—led by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi—marched to Gandhi Smriti on Tees January Marg in New Delhi to pay tribute to medical aspirants who died by suicide following the exam's cancellation.
The demonstration comes as Opposition parties step up pressure on the government, demanding a comprehensive probe into alleged administrative failures, widespread exam irregularities, and recent instances of police action against peaceful student demonstrators.
High-Voltage Political March Across Central Delhi
The march originated from 5, Sunehri Bagh Road, where several Opposition Members of Parliament gathered to outline their strategy before setting out on foot toward Tees January Marg.
En route near Amit Shah’s official residence, Delhi Police personnel briefly stopped the marching leaders, citing restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which restricts large public assemblies. Following discussions with senior officers, security forces cleared barricades to allow the delegation to proceed peacefully.
Rahul Gandhi Issues Strong Statement of Solidarity
In a video statement recorded during the march, Rahul Gandhi emphasised that the INDIA alliance stands firmly united with affected students, medical aspirants, and their families.
"Right now, MPs and leaders of the INDIA alliance are peacefully heading to Gandhi Smriti on Tees January Marg. We go to remember the students we lost – the children driven to take their own lives after the NEET paper leak," stated Rahul Gandhi. "And we go to stand with the students who lie injured today – beaten for peacefully demanding justice and accountability. India’s students are not alone. The entire Opposition stands with them and their demands."
Demand for Parliamentary Debate and Systemic Reform
Before starting the march, senior Opposition strategists met to finalise a unified strategy for the ongoing legislative session. Leaders reiterated their commitment to forcing a direct, uninterrupted discussion on the floor of Parliament regarding paper leaks, central testing agency reforms, and strict action against offending examination networks.
