BJP Fires Back After Rahul Gandhi Demands Street Debate With PM Narendra Modi

Post

Reigniting a heated war of words between the ruling coalition and the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a stinging reprimand against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his repeated challenges demanding an open-air public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reacting to remarks made during Gandhi's political rally in Punjab, the ruling party described the Congress leader’s insistence on holding debates on public streets rather than within the sacred halls of Parliament as a direct insult to the founding architects of the Indian Constitution and a mockery of the democratic mandate delivered by the country's electorate.

Trivedi Recalls Lok Sabha Walkouts: "You Run Away When the Prime Minister Speaks"

Addressing media persons during a national press briefing in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi presented a sharp timeline of past parliamentary proceedings, accusing the Congress leader of evading direct legislative accountability. Trivedi highlighted that during the contentious 2023 no-confidence motion, Rahul Gandhi exited the Lok Sabha chamber the moment Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood up to reply to the debate, repeating a similar walkout pattern during critical discussions regarding the Manipur situation. Emphasizing that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution's framers designated Parliament as the nation's supreme platform for deliberation, Trivedi questioned how an elected Leader of the Opposition could actively bypass the floor of the House while clamoring for open-air political theater, sarcastically suggesting that the opposition alliance conduct another symbolic mock session instead.

Himanta Biswa Sarma and Gaurav Gogoi Clash Over Constitutional Forums

Lending strong support to the party's offensive, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma questioned why the Congress parliamentarian preferred roadside rhetoric over established legislative channels. Sarma reiterated that elected lawmakers are bound by constitutional duty to confront policy matters inside the House of the People, not across campaign stages. The remarks drew a sharp and immediate retaliation from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, who countered that Sarma’s persistent attacks on Rahul Gandhi stem from personal anxieties over a future change of power in New Delhi, asserting that an incoming Congress-led government would conduct comprehensive inquiries into alleged state governance improprieties.
