Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a revealing new interview, beloved Bollywood actress Kajol has confirmed a long-standing piece of film trivia: she was offered a lead role in the record-breaking blockbuster 3 Idiots but chose to turn it down.
The role in question was that of Pia, the spirited medical student eventually portrayed by Kareena Kapoor in the 2009 smash hit. Instead of joining Aamir Khan in the campus comedy-drama, Kajol opted to star alongside her frequent collaborator, Shah Rukh Khan, in the romantic drama My Name Is Khan, which was released the following year.
Explaining her decision, Kajol stated that her choice was purely about the substance of the role offered to her. While she acknowledged the massive appeal of 3 Idiots, she felt that the character of Mandira in My Name Is Khan was a more significant and central part for her as an actress.
"I have no regrets," Kajol said, reflecting on her choice. "I felt that the role for me in My Name Is Khan was much better."
While 3 Idiots went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, Kajol’s chosen project was also a major critical and commercial success worldwide. For the actress, the decision was clearly a matter of artistic satisfaction over a guaranteed box office hit, a choice she confidently stands by to this day.
