Bareilly: TV actress Sapna Singh’s 14-year-old son died after he was allegedly drugged by two of his friends, officials said on Wednesday. The actress staged a protest in Bareilly against her son’s death, following which the accused were arrested, officials said. According to police, Sagar (14), a class VIII student who lived with his maternal uncle Om Prakash in Anand Vihar Colony, Bareilly, was found dead near Adalakhiya village in Izzatnagar police station area on Sunday morning, a day after Om Prakash had filed a missing person’s report. According to police, as per information provided by family members, Sagar Gangwar had gone to school on Saturday but did not return, following which a missing person’s report was filed. Police said his body was recovered on Sunday but could not be identified, although Sagar’s family members identified the body on Monday.
Police started investigation after the protest
The actress’ protest, which lasted for more than 90 minutes on Tuesday, ended after the local police assured action. According to the police, two of Gangwar’s friends Anuj and Sunny (both adults) were arrested on charges of murder. Circle Officer of Police (Faridpur) Ashutosh Shivam said, “The cause of death could not be ascertained from the post-mortem. However, there are indications of death due to poisoning or drug overdose. The viscera of the body has been preserved for investigation.” Inspector in-charge of Bhuta police station Sunil Kumar said, “During interrogation, Anuj and Sunny admitted that they had consumed drugs and alcohol with Sagar. Sagar fell unconscious due to excessive consumption. Panicked, they dragged Sagar to a field and left him there.” The Baradari police had registered a missing person complaint by Om Prakash on December 7, after the body was identified, CCTV footage installed near the spot showed Anuj and Sunny dragging an unconscious Sagar.
The actress has worked in Crime Patrol and Mati Ki Banno
Both of them were taken into custody, the official said. The incident triggered protests in Sagar village and people blocked the road and demanded a second post-mortem. Sapna Singh, famous for her roles in TV shows ‘Crime Patrol’ and ‘Mati Ki Banno’, returned from Mumbai on Tuesday and found her son dead. She broke down on seeing her son’s body and demanded justice. Following the protests, the police added a murder charge and filed a fresh FIR at Bhuta police station. Sapna demanded justice from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that those involved in her son’s murder should be ‘encountered’. She alleged that her son was stabbed and shot several times after being given drugs. “There were several wounds on his body. The police have changed the post-mortem report,” Sapna alleged.
