Harmanpreet Kaur made the right call at the toss and the Mumbai Indians decided to bowl first against the UP Warriorz at the Ekana Stadium. So far in the 16 matches, the captains prefer to chase as only two teams were able to defend a target, one of them being UPW.
The match was played on the red-soil surface of Lucknow, which as Mithali Raj put it, would not help the spinners. Still, MI chose to add another spin option by selecting Parunika Sisodia at the expense of seam-bowling allrounder Jintimani Kalita.
The UPW led by Deepti Sharma, who are hovering on the line of not qualifying for the playoffs, went in unchanged. After not bowling Gouher Sultana in the last game, they decided to keep her in the XI.
The new pitch had the square boundaries at 58m and 51m while hitting straight was only 65m. For MI, this would be another opportunity to qualify for the playoffs to make it for the third consecutive year.
