Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar has officially confirmed the highly anticipated sequel, ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’, which she has co-produced alongside her husband, director Sundar C. Starring Nayanthara as the divine Goddess, the film was launched with a grand event in Chennai on Thursday.
During an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, Khushbu revealed that the sequel will not only be a larger-than-life Sundar C entertainer but also carry a strong message of women’s empowerment.
A Power-Packed Cast and an Epic Storyline
The film's production kicked off at LV Prasad Studios, where Nayanthara and Regina Cassandra began shooting their respective portions.
- Nayanthara reprises her role as the divine protagonist, bringing her signature charisma to the character.
- Regina Cassandra takes on the antagonist’s role, marking her second consecutive negative role after starring in Ajith Kumar’s ‘Vidamuyarchi’.
- Other key cast members include Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Duniya Vijay, and Garuda Ram.
Director Sundar C shared that the film will showcase the divine strength of both Amman (Goddess) and a mother, symbolizing the power of women in different forms.
How ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ Stands Apart from the Original
When asked how the sequel differs from its predecessor, Khushbu Sundar stated:
“This has a completely different storyline and will have a much bigger scale and platform.”
She emphasized that the film will stay true to Sundar C’s signature style of entertaining cinema while incorporating a deeper social message on women's empowerment.
A Massive Rs 100 Crore Budget and a New Franchise Begins
The film is being produced on a massive budget of ₹100 crore, making it one of the biggest projects in Tamil cinema.
Despite carrying the Tamil title ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’, the makers clarified that the film is actually a standalone story titled ‘Maha Shakthi’, which will mark the beginning of a brand-new cinematic franchise.
Nayanthara’s Emotional Connection to the Role
Speaking about her role, Nayanthara expressed how deeply meaningful it is to her, saying:
"Playing this role is more than just a performance—it's an emotion. ‘Maha Shakthi’ carries a power beyond cinema, and with Sundar Sir’s vision, we are bringing a story that will leave an impact on audiences. I’m thrilled to be part of this grand journey."
Awaiting the Release Date
While the makers have yet to announce the official release date, anticipation is already building for what promises to be a visually grand, socially impactful, and spiritually powerful cinematic experience.
