Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Fresh from securing a third term as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has arrived in Apulia, Italy, to join the leaders of the world's most advanced economies for the G7 Summit. This marks his first international trip since beginning his new term, signaling India's continued focus on global diplomacy.
While India is not a member of the G7, it has been invited as a crucial "Outreach Nation." PM Modi is scheduled to address the Outreach session, where he will focus on key global challenges including artificial intelligence (AI), energy security, and development in Africa and the Mediterranean. His participation underscores India's growing influence and its role as a representative for the Global South.
A significant part of the visit will be a series of one-on-one meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the summit. A confirmed bilateral discussion with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is high on the agenda, building on the strong relationship between the two nations. Meetings are also anticipated with other prominent figures, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
This is India's 11th overall participation in the G7 Summit and the fifth consecutive time it has received an invitation, highlighting its consistent and valued presence at major international forums. The trip is seen as an opportunity to further India's foreign policy goals, including its "Neighbourhood First" policy and its vision for "Security and Growth for All in the Region" (SAGAR).
The visit also celebrates the deepening strategic partnership between India and Italy. Prime Minister Meloni has previously visited India twice, and this meeting aims to continue the positive momentum in their diplomatic and economic ties.
