Suspense crime, Digital Desk : A significant fire started onboard a cargo ship registered in Singapore which was sailing around the Kerala coast. The merchant ship undergoing a voyage to Mumbai encountered a catastrophic situation when approximately 20 containers caught fire, with some explosively falling overboard.

Taking prompt action, the Indian Naval Command redirected SURAT to the location of the fire for boarding rescue missions. Preliminary information suggests that nearly 18 of the 22 crew members who were positioned within the vessel scalding atmosphere violently exited the ship via the fire escapes drowning in the waters below. Operations to seek and rescue the crew members are currently active.

Indian Navy and Coast Guard Launch Rescue Mission

Defence sources have stated that the Indian Coast Guard has engaged numerous SSKs to facilitate the crisis situation. In active response, a Dornier aircraft from the Coast Guard is participating in the dual roles of rescue and fire damage control.

As per the Kerala Defence PRO, naval and coast guard elements are also operating together to control the circumferential damage while attending to the injured crew members. This has prompted further evaluation of maritime security around the southern tip of India.
