Significance of the Day
Lord Ganesha is revered as "Vighnaharta," the deity who clears all impediments. Worshipping him on Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi is considered exceptionally powerful. Devotees undertake a "vrat" (fast) to seek his divine intervention, asking for strength to overcome life's challenges, success in their endeavors, and the well-being of their families.
How to Perform the Puja (Worship Rituals)
Early Start: Devotees should wake up during Brahma Muhurta (the auspicious period before sunrise), take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
Take a Vow (Sankalp): Facing the east, hold water in your palm and take a solemn vow to observe the fast with sincerity for Lord Ganesha.
Prepare the Altar: Place an idol or picture of Lord Ganesha on a clean platform. Light a ghee lamp and incense sticks.
Make Offerings: Offer Lord Ganesha his favorite items, including fresh durva grass, yellow flowers, and sweets like modak or laddoo. Apply a tilak of vermilion (sindoor) to the idol.
Recite Prayers: Chant Ganesha mantras, such as "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah," and recite the Ganesh Chalisa. An essential part of the ritual is reading or listening to the Krishnapingala Sankashti Vrat Katha (the story associated with the fast).
Perform Aarti: Conclude the evening puja with the Ganesha Aarti.
Moon Worship: The fast is completed only after sighting the moon. Offer Arghya (a sacred offering of water, flowers, and rice) to the moon and then break your fast.
