Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Karnataka state government has announced a significant relief measure for its hospitality sector, approving a 50% reduction in the renewal fees for specific categories of liquor licenses. This move is expected to provide substantial financial relief to thousands of bars, restaurants, hotels, and lodges across the state.
The decision, confirmed by the state cabinet, specifically targets businesses holding CL-7 (licenses for hotels and lodges with boarding facilities) and CL-9 (licenses for bars and restaurants) permits. These establishments will now pay only half of the previous annual fee to renew their licenses for the upcoming year.
In addition to the fee cut, the government has also extended the deadline for the renewal process. The last date to renew these licenses has been moved from June 30 to July 31, 2024, giving business owners more time to complete the formalities without incurring penalties.
It is important to note that this reduction does not apply to all license types. The fee cut is not applicable to CL-2 licenses, which are held by retail liquor stores (MRP outlets) that sell sealed bottles. Furthermore, the fees for obtaining a new liquor license or for transferring an existing license remain unchanged.
This strategic move by the Siddaramaiah-led government is seen as a direct response to requests from hospitality associations, providing a much-needed boost to businesses that are a crucial part of the state's economy and tourism landscape.
