London: The Indian cricket team was attempting to clinch the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 on the second day of the fifth and final Test. They were trying to secure a win with well directed bowler. After achieving a score of 224 in the first innings, the Indian bowlers successfully contained England to a score of 247 in their first innings.

A heated exchange between England’s captain Joe Root and Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna came during this clash. England’s score was a healthy 129 with the loss of 2 wickets. Root came to the bat. to face his innings. He could only add 29 before being dismissed by Krishna and thus exiting the game.

While Root was animatedly batting, it looked like for a brief moment, he was heated by the Indian bowler Krishna’s words. It was observed Krishna was saying he was “in great shape”. After this, he walloped the next ball to the boundary and was still engaging with Krishna which necessitated the presence of the on-field umpires to calm things down.

Prasidh Krishna later shared, “I don't know why Rooty reacted the way he did; I just said, ‘You’re looking in great shape,’ and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that.” His explanation of the incident’s context was provided during an interview with BBC’s Test Match Special.

Krishna acknowledged that the Indian team did create a plan that included some verbal abuse aimed at distracting Root, virtually claiming that it was fair game, “That was the plan.” Root, of course, did not put his focus on responding to such strains, and that clearly surprised some of his teammates, such as the Indian bowler Krishna. As he put it, “That is the nature of sports. When I am in the bowling attack, I like to create some energy at the shrine; it does not mean I am not a serious cricketer.”
