Kishan Reddy visits flood-affected areas in Telangana, assures central help

Telangana BJP president and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday visited flood-affected areas of Khammam district of the state and assured the people that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre will provide all possible help to the affected people. He said that the Centre has asked the Telangana government to first use the Rs 1,345 crore available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to help the flood-affected people. 

Reddy said that this amount is available with the state as an advance from the Government of India. He said after visiting flood-affected Muneru in Khammam district on Sunday, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy immediately after the devastation caused by heavy rains and floods. Prime Minister Modi asked him (Revanth Reddy) to use Rs 1,345 crore available as an advance in the SDRF. There should be no politics on flood relief. ” 

29 people died in Telangana

29 people have lost their lives in the recent heavy rains and floods in Telangana. The state government has urged the Center to declare the recent heavy rains and floods in the state as a national disaster and release immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore. According to preliminary estimates, the rains and floods have caused losses worth Rs 5,438 crore. After visiting the flood-affected areas of Dhamsalapuram and Thirumalapalem in Khammam, Reddy said that he interacted with the people affected by the devastating floods and enquired about the flood relief and rehabilitation efforts. He said in a post on ‘X’, “I also came to know that the victims are not getting adequate assistance from the state government.” 

Many people are homeless in Khammam

Khammam witnessed unprecedented floods, leaving a large number of people homeless. The Union minister assured that the state and central governments will stand by the victims and provide them with all possible help. Reddy also promised to build a resilient embankment along the Muneru River in the vicinity to prevent future floods.
