
Thomas Gabriel, a native of Kerala, was shot dead at the Jordan-Israel border, his family confirmed on Sunday.
Gabriel, 47, who dwelt in Thumba, as per his family went missing after he left home on the February 5th to go Velankanni in Tamil Nadu. In reality, he was part of a four man group trying to cross into Israel through a smuggler.
As per TV reports, Jordanian forces opened fire on the group as they fled after being intercepted. Gabriel received a gunshot wound to the head and, Edison, his friend, received wounds to the leg and was evacuated to an indian army hospital after being treated by the Jordanians.
Gabriel’s wife, Christeena, remembered what he told her last, “He spoke to me for only two minutes, He just asked me to pray for him…”
His sister in law said they got the news from a family friend based in London. “We don’t know what exactly happened. He left on february 5 and on the 9th my sister got a very short call from him”, she told ANI.
The Indian Embassy in Jordan on March 1 confirmed the death of Gabriel, however, the family has not received any further official notice.
