Severe Weather Impact in J-K

The region is currently facing devastating rainfall, cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, causing tragic loss of life and leaving many stranded across affected districts. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as water levels continue to rise, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas.

Critical Government Response

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened an emergency meeting to oversee the crisis response, emphasizing the need for immediate relief, accelerated evacuation from danger zones, and uninterrupted essential services. Residents have been strongly advised to avoid hazardous areas and remain vigilant as unpredictable weather events escalate the risk to public safety.

Meteorological Alerts and Risks

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several districts, warning of extreme rainfall threatening public safety in regions including Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch.
  • Orange and yellow alerts have been extended to other districts, with forecasts of severe rain, potential cloudbursts, sudden flooding, and landslides—forcing school closures and official advisories for people to stay clear of rivers and landslide-prone zones.
