Netflix’s new limited series Adolescence has quickly gained attention from both audiences and critics for its powerful storyline and emotional depth. Bollywood stars, including Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, have shared positive feedback, with Johar offering an in-depth reflection on the show's impact.
Karan Johar Shares Emotional Reaction to 'Adolescence'
Filmmaker Karan Johar, a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi, took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the show. Posting the series poster, he penned a heartfelt note, calling Adolescence a "mirror" for modern parenting.
He began by stating, “To be a parent… it’s a blessing but also a serious responsibility… no podcast or book can fully prepare you.” He emphasized that how parents behave, communicate, and what values they uphold are all things children mirror over time.
Parenting and Social Media: A Central Theme in 'Adolescence'
Johar wrote that Adolescence serves as a loud wake-up call for parents raising children in today’s digitally driven environment. Highlighting generational differences, he remarked, “I grew up on books, they scroll reels… I grew up on self-discovery, they are surrounded by comparisons.”
He continued, “We just don’t see it. This gut-wrenching show is more a mirror to parenting and social media commentary than anything I’ve seen or been impacted by recently.”
Filmmaking Meets Emotion: Johar’s Take as a Director and Parent
Praising the technical brilliance of the show, especially the use of long shots, Johar said it impressed him as a filmmaker but deeply affected him as a parent. He described the four-part mini-series as a “blasterclass for parents,” stating that it enhanced his awareness and responsibility as a father.
‘Adolescence’ – A Bold Look at Modern Family Dynamics
Directed by Philip Barantini, Adolescence follows the Miller family, whose lives are disrupted when 13-year-old Jamie is accused of killing a classmate. The four-episode series dives deep into the psychological and social pressures faced by today’s teens and their families.
