Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Kamal Haasan’s eagerly awaited movie Thug Life has performed tepidly at the Indian box office in its first six days of release. As per Sacnilk, the film's collections are disappointing, especially when compared to the previous movies of Haasan and his collaborator, director Mani Ratnam.

Day 1 (Friday): ₹15.5 crore
Day 2 (Saturday): ₹7.15 crore
Day 3 (Sunday): ₹7.75 crore
Day 4 (Monday): ₹6.5 crore
Day 5 (Tuesday): ₹2.3 crore
Day 6 (Wednesday, early estimate): ₹1.75 crore

Total India Net Collection: ₹40.95 crore

Limited Engagement as Reflected in Occupancy Rates

The film has an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 17.01% as of Tuesday, June 10. Here it is broken down by time slot.

Morning Shows: 14.72%
Afternoon Shows: 18.79%
Evening Shows: 16.42%
Night Shows: 18.09%

The film’s underwhelming performance is accentuated by a lack of audience turnout to watch the film, even within the Tamil-speaking demographics.

Competition and Audience Reception

It’s possible that the film’s overall box office numbers are suffering from stiff competition, especially from Housefull 5 which released the same day. The comedy franchise features an ensemble cast with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Abhishek Bachchan and has tapped into a different segment of the audience.
