Former CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed he participated in a recently leaked Signal group chat that has raised national security concerns. Ratcliffe maintained that his messages were legal and did not contain any classified material.

He also acknowledged that including a journalist in a private chat about military operations was “definitely not” appropriate, in reference to the addition of The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the group.

Senate Hearing Addresses Chat Leak

Ratcliffe appeared at a Senate hearing alongside Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel, where the Signal breach was addressed. Gabbard, who currently serves as Director of National Intelligence, declined to respond when questioned about the leak.

“Senator, I don’t want to get into this,” she told Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

FBI Director Kash Patel, who was not part of the group chat, avoided commenting on whether his agency would investigate the incident.

Trump Comments on the Breach

In an interview with Newsmax, former President Donald Trump confirmed the Signal group breach involved a junior staff member connected to National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Trump stated this individual mistakenly added Goldberg to a group where Trump officials were discussing military action against the Houthis.

Calling it “the only glitch in two months,” Trump emphasized that no classified data was shared and that the military operation was successful.
