Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Jharkhand has confirmed its first COVID-19-related death in the current wave of infections, highlighting the continued risk posed by the virus, especially to vulnerable populations.
The victim was a 78-year-old man from the Sonari area of Jamshedpur in the East Singhbhum district. According to health officials, the patient had a history of severe pre-existing health conditions, including paralysis, hypertension, and diabetes.
He was admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on June 8 and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on the evening of June 9. The death was officially confirmed by Dr. Sahir Pall, the District Surveillance Officer for East Singhbhum.
This fatality serves as a grim reminder of the virus's potential danger. Currently, Jharkhand has 31 active cases of COVID-19, with the majority—21 cases—concentrated in the East Singhbhum district.
In response to the rising case numbers and the recent death, the state health department has issued an advisory. Officials are strongly encouraging residents who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, or sore throat, to come forward for testing. They have also reiterated the importance of adhering to COVID-appropriate behaviors, including wearing masks in crowded places and maintaining social distancing, to curb the spread of the virus.
