If you pay income tax, listen up: you have some crucial dates coming up. The deadline to file your income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-2025 is September 15, 2025. As that date approaches, tax experts have shared some smart tips for making the filing process a lot smoother. Many people still have questions, especially about something called the Annual Information Statement, or AIS for short.
The AIS was rolled out by the Income Tax Department back in 2021. Think of it as a digital summary of the year’s financial highlights. It collects most of the transactions you’ve made and puts them in one handy document. The statement covers a range of income sources, so you can see your financial activity from one neat file instead of hunting down bits and pieces here and there.
Your AIS lists all sorts of transactions, including your salary, rental income, and any TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) shown by your employer or financial institutions. It also shows dividends, bank interest, share trading activity, property you’ve bought or sold, tax payments, and even any refunds or tax demands you’ve received. Long ago, Form 26AS was the only tool for a tax snapshot, showing TDS, TCS (Tax Collected at Source), and any Self-Assessment Tax. The addition of AIS simply gives a fuller, clearer picture for every taxpayer.
To get your Annual Information Statement (AIS), head over to the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. Just log in using your PAN or Aadhaar number together with your password. Once you're inside, find the AIS section and grab the PDF version of your statement. There’s also a handy AIS mobile app, free to use and perfect for checking your details on the go.
Here’s the simple step-by-step to get your AIS:
1. Log in at the Income Tax e-filing portal.
2. Find the AIS menu and hit “Proceed” to go to the AIS section.
3. Choose either the Annual Information Statement (AIS) or the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS).
4. Download the statement with a single click.
With AIS right at your fingertips, preparing your Income Tax Return (ITR) in 2025 will be easier and more transparent—no more hunting for hidden transaction details!
