In a bizarre episode, a bunch of foreign tourists was reportedly beaten and sexually assaulted by a group of men in Karnataka. The shocking attack occurred on Thursday, along the shores of the Sanapur Lake close to Hampi.
“Her victimisation was complete after an unknown assailant broke into the house and sexually attacked her as she lay on the floor of her room,” a woman who operates a homestay was allegedly leading two tourists from Israel and an American male along with a male tourist from Odisha to a stargazing spot at the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal.
A group of three men reportedly approached them when they were playing guitar and stargazing. While some reports claim the men were riding a motorbike, others suggest they were driving a car. The men begged the tourists for petrol and later, not even trying to hide their ill intentions, asked them for ₹100.
In case the tourists did not comply, the men quickly turned aggressive and began beating them up.
These men hurled the male tourists who were with two female tourists into a nearby canal and then focused their wrath on the women.
The accused stole money and mobile phones from the tourists after meeting them and left the scene after sexually assaulting the two women.
One body of a foreigner has been retrieved.
Although two of the men who were shoved into the canal were able to swim to safety, the third man, who hails from Odisha, did not survive.
Beebas, who is 40 years old, went missing on Friday. Authorities located his remains in the Tungabhadra Left Canal on Saturday, which is situated close to Sanapura village in the Gangavathi town area.
Charges have been laid.
Acting on the 29-year-old homeowner’s complaint, who is also one of the victims of the assault, the Gangavathi Rural Police have started investigating this matter. Hopefully, they catch the perpetrator soon.
The complainants claimed that the first-person they saw spoke those languages and looked to be in their twenties.
Law enforcement officials announced that they have recognized the people in question and have assigned special groups to capture them.
