The Israeli military has announced that it will no longer permit Palestinians to enter northern Gaza from the south, effectively reimposing a blockade that was in place for much of the war before January's ceasefire.

Israel Imposes Travel Restrictions in Gaza

In a statement released on Thursday, the Israeli military warned Palestinians against using Gaza's main north-south highway to travel between the regions. Instead, it specified that only movement to the south would be allowed via Gaza’s coastal road.

This decision reinstates the blockade that had previously been maintained throughout most of the war before the ceasefire agreement in January had temporarily eased restrictions.

Impact on Palestinian Movement

The restriction is expected to further complicate the movement of civilians and humanitarian efforts in the region. Many Palestinians who had fled the heavy fighting in northern Gaza during earlier stages of the conflict had begun attempting to return, but the renewed blockade now prevents further reentry into the north.
