Jerusalem: The Israeli army on Monday expressed regret over the killing of three Lebanese soldiers in southern Lebanon. Israel’s sena said that it is not fighting the Lebanese army. Israel said that its soldiers thought they were targeting a vehicle of the terrorist organization Hezbollah. After the death of Hamas’s top leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza, Hezbollah has said that it is entering a new phase of the fight against Israel.
What did the Israeli army say?
The Israeli army apologized for the attack, saying, “Soldiers on Sunday targeted a Hezbollah truck that had a launcher and missiles.” The army said the soldiers did not know that the other truck belonged to the Lebanese army. The Israeli army said it was “not acting against the Lebanese army and regrets these unwanted circumstances.”
Will the war stop?
Yahya Sinwar was the main plotter of the attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, after which a fierce war started. Israel’s allies, residents of Gaza, and others have hoped that Sinwar’s killing will pave the way for an end to the war, but both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas have vowed to continue the fight until their goals are achieved.
What is Hamas saying?
PM Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to dismantle Hamas and free the hostages. Hamas, on the other hand, says it will release the hostages only in exchange for a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Lebanon’s army has remained aloof from the war.
Meanwhile, it should also be noted here that the Lebanese army is not strong enough to impose its will on Hezbollah or protect Lebanon from an Israeli invasion. The Lebanese army has largely remained aloof during the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah over the past year.
