Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Because of the escalated border conflict between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has put a stop to the ongoing 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) immediately. A BCCI representative told PTI that it does not “look nice” for the tournament to continue while the IPL is facing security concerns, affirming the board supports the country in this delicate phase.

As the tournament has the opportunity to be rescheduled for later dates, it now is put on hold indefinitely with only 16 matches remaining.

Disruption of Scheduled Flights due to Instability of and around Northern India

This comes after the suspension of travel activities following the shutting down of 27 airports in the North-Western regions of India which includes Dharamsala and Chandigarh—home cities of the Punjab Kings. Even though the matches in Chandigarh were completed, the shutting down of Kangra airport in Dharamsala made it very difficult logistically for the teams.

Some steps were taken to relocate parts of the Mumbai Indians vs. Punjab Kings matches to Ahmedabad. However, the initial match against the Delhi Capitals, which had already begun in Dharamsala was still ongoing. Regardless of the circumstances, Delhi still has problems with blackouts around Pathankot and adjacent islands.

Concerns Over Security and Blackouts Have Led to New Relocation Zones

Numerous regions such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and Chandigarh experienced a blackout (suspension of electricity) due to the sounds of air raid alerts and explosions near Jammu. It was inappropriate given the high-stakes cricket event to hold it under such circumstances.

Once the match was over, both teams were transferred to their hotel and were then moved from Dharamsala by special train to their next location, courtesy of the BCCI. The bodies of the players were moved while the heads were left.

PSL Also Impacted by Regional Instability

The IPL's suspension seems to mimic a previous move made by the Pakistan Cricket Board, who relocated the PSL to the UAE after a drone assault on the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium earlier in the year.
