Suspense crime, Digital Desk : At 8 AM on Saturday, India had 5,364 active COVID-19 cases. The Union Health Ministry reported an additional 498 infections and four new deaths within the last 24 hours.
Government Response and Monitoring
With the uptick in cases, the central government has instituted additional readiness assessment measures. States have also provided new advisories to effectively contain the scenario.
Regions with the Most Active Cases
Kerala remains the leading contributor of new daily infections, recording a further 192 cases. Following behind were Gujarat with 107, West Bengal with 58, and Delhi with 30.
National Mock Drills and Review Meetings
Technical review meetings were conducted on June 2 and 3 with ICMR, NCDC, IDSP and disaster management representatives alongside the country’s chief health director (DGHS) Sunita Sharma. Other than the review meetings, a countrywide mock drill was performed targeting the oxygen system, including PSA and LMO pipeline units.

Maharashtra confirmed 114 additional infections and one new death. Their total is now 2025, having 1276 cases and 18 deaths. Most of those who died had preexisting medical issues.
Condition of Haryana and Other States
Haryana reported 31 additional cases of infection, with Gurugram (9 cases of infection) and Faridabad (11 cases) as the key contributors. The state is currently housing 87 active cases, of which two are currently hospitalized. Arti Singh Rao, the Health Minister, directed residents to exercise caution but avoid undue panic.
Odisha added seven new cases, raising its active cases to 23. Officials have noted that there have been no new severe cases with the situation being fairly stable.
Population's COVID-19 Cases in Uttarakhand and West Bengal
Uttarakhand case was Dehradun confirming seven new cases, increasing the district's total to 29. Contact tracing is still underway. In West Bengal 58 new cases were registered along with 91 recoveries bringing the active case load down to 596. Fatalities count remains the same.

A novel approach implementing sedimentation of clay virus electrolyte mixture to measure virus levels has been developed by IIT Guwahati's Researchers for SARS-CoV-2 detection which provides cost effective options. The research has been shared in a peer-reviewed journal.
