India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held discussions with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Monday, focusing on strengthening defence and security collaboration between the two nations. Gabbard, currently on a two-and-a-half-day visit to India, engaged in discussions covering various issues, including defence strategies and intelligence sharing.
"Happy to have met the US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in New Delhi. We discussed a wide range of issues, including defence and information sharing, to deepen the India-US partnership," Rajnath Singh stated after the meeting.
Meetings with Indian Officials
Before meeting Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks with Gabbard on Sunday. Media reports indicate that their meeting covered multiple aspects of India-US relations, including security and strategic cooperation.
Gabbard’s visit to India is part of a larger multi-nation tour. Her Asia visit will conclude with an address at the Raisina Dialogue 2025 on March 18. The annual geopolitical event in New Delhi, organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), brings together global leaders and policymakers.
Key Engagements During Gabbard’s Visit
During the Raisina Dialogue, Gabbard will hold bilateral meetings with Indian officials and representatives from other countries. The New York Times cited a Trump administration official stating that Gabbard's visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent trip to the US in February. During that visit, PM Modi met Gabbard, acknowledging her as a strong advocate of India-US relations.
According to the official Raisina Dialogue website, Gabbard will participate in a keynote conversation with Samir Saran, President of ORF.
