Suspense crime, Digital Desk : As per the data provided by the Ministry of Family Health and Welfare, India currently has 1,010 active COVID cases as of May 27. Experts have said that the increase in the active cases is slow but a cause for caution without alarming the general public.
The Highest New-Cases In Kerala, Delhi, And Maharashtra
Following the trend of new infections, Kerala remains at the top with 328 new infections along with 430 active cases. Maharashtra closely follows with 153 new cases now placing their total to Delhi’s 99. Other states which are also reporting a rise in cases include:
Karnataka: New cases are 47
Gujarat: New cases are 83
West Bengal: New cases are 12
Uttar Pradesh: New cases are 15
The Symptoms Are Mild Alongside Low Hospitalisation
Cases being reported currently are showing minimal symptoms which makes the number of hospitalized patients remain low. Although there were seven reported deaths from the virus in the past week, this is still a significant increase considering the previous month where only a single death was reported.
India's COVID cases have seen a significant upsurge within the past few days, which India also seems to be following the global rising trend focused in the south east Asian countries, along with Singapore, China, and Hong Kong reporting a greater infection rate.
India Detects New COVID-19 Sub-Variants
The NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 sub-variants have recently been detected by India. As stated by the Indian SARS CoV-2 Genomic Consortium (INSACOG):
One case of NB.1.8.1 was reported from Tamil Nadu.
Four cases of LF.7 were reported in Gujarat.
Even though both sub-variants are under monitoring from the WHO, as of now, they are not classified as variants of concern.
JN.1 Variant Circulation in India
India is also monitoring the JN.1 sub-lineage, which is associated with Omicron BA.2.86 (Pirola) variant. While this strain has yet to exhibit severe effects, its potential for easier spread owing to mutations in the spike protein could be problematic.
Proactive Measure from Health Ministry
The Union Health Ministry is constantly tracking the situation and has assessed the status of COVID-19 within the country. It is advised that the general public remains alert and observes health safety protocols, as officials continue to monitor the situation.
