India has firmly rejected Pakistan's repeated mentions of Jammu and Kashmir during a recent United Nations Security Council session focused on peacekeeping reforms. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, called Pakistan’s references “unwarranted” and reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always be an integral part of India.”

Speaking during the debate, Harish condemned Pakistan’s attempts to divert focus from the central agenda of peacekeeping reforms. He stated that these efforts do not legitimize Pakistan’s territorial claims or justify its “state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.”

India Condemns Pakistan’s Continued Occupation

Harish stressed that Pakistan continues to occupy parts of Jammu and Kashmir illegally and must vacate those areas. He underlined that India will not tolerate any attempts to undermine its sovereignty on international platforms. Harish urged Pakistan to avoid using multilateral forums to promote a “parochial and divisive agenda.”

This response came after Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Pakistani Prime Minister, raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue during the Security Council’s debate on peacekeeping reforms.

India Emphasizes Peacekeeping Reforms and Global Security

While reaffirming its territorial stance, India also pushed for significant reforms in UN peacekeeping efforts. Harish highlighted the importance of evolving these missions to counter modern security threats, including non-state actors and advanced weaponry. He also called for better financial support and meaningful input from countries contributing troops and police personnel.

India’s Commitment to Inclusivity and Representation

India reiterated its support for gender inclusion in peacekeeping operations. Harish mentioned India’s recent organization of the first-ever Conference for Women Peacekeepers from the Global South. He also emphasized the need for broader reforms in the Security Council to make it more representative of current geopolitical realities.
