The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is to be played between India and Australia from next month. The Indian team will tour Australia for this series. This time in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the two teams will play a 5-match Test series for which the Indian team has been announced. Delhi fast bowler Harshit Rana and Andhra all-rounder Nitish Reddy have been included for the first time in the 18-member Indian team led by Rohit Sharma for the Australia tour.
The surprising thing is that Mohammed Shami has not been included in the team selected for the series against Australia. Mohammed Shami has been out of the team for almost 1 year due to injury. He had an ankle surgery which took him a long time to recover. Although a few days ago it was expected that Shami could be fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, now it is clear that it will take time for the dashing bowler to return to the field. Apart from Shami, Kuldeep Yadav has also been shown the way out of the team. He will have to miss the Australia tour due to injury.
Star spinner out
Kuldeep Yadav has been advised to undergo long-term rehabilitation for his back injury. Axar Patel has been dropped from the team selected for the Australia series. Washington Sundar, who took 11 wickets in the ongoing Test in Pune, has been included in the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name was also being discussed for this tour but he has also not been given a chance because he was already appointed captain of India’s A team going on an Australia tour. Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been out for a long time, also could not return to the team. Pujara had made important contributions with the bat on the last 2 Australia tours.
India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is as follows: Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar.
