In recent years, tragic reports of young individuals collapsing and losing their lives while working out in gyms, dancing, or engaging in strenuous physical activities have sparked widespread alarm. To uncover the clinical triggers behind these sudden cardiac events, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) undertook a comprehensive, nationwide investigation. Comprehensive Research Methodology and Key Demographic Findings

Spearheaded by researchers from the ICMR's National Institute of Epidemiology across twenty-five major medical centers, the study examined 767 patients aged 18 to 45 who survived cardiovascular emergencies due to timely medical intervention. Among the evaluated cohort, 432 patients (approximately 56.3 percent) suffered heart attacks, while 25.8 percent experienced strokes caused by obstructed blood flow to the brain, collectively accounting for over 82 percent of total cases. Most notably, the data showed that 614 patients—roughly 80.1 percent—fell within the 31 to 45 age bracket, highlighting a vulnerable demographic window.

Quantifying the Core Risk Factors for Young Heart Attacks

The ICMR investigation isolated specific lifestyle and clinical risk factors that exponentially elevate cardiovascular vulnerability among young people:

History of Blood Clots: Individuals with a prior medical history of blood clotting faced a staggering 60-fold increased risk of suffering a heart attack compared to the general population.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions: Underlying health issues multiplied cardiovascular risk by 4.6 times.

Tobacco Smoking: Active smokers exhibited a 3.5-fold higher likelihood of experiencing cardiac arrest.

Family Medical History: A genetic history of early blood clotting or heart disease elevated risk by 3.3 times.

Furthermore, the study noted that individuals previously hospitalized for severe COVID-19 infections demonstrated a heightened susceptibility to later blood clots. However, a significant reassuring finding confirmed that the COVID-19 vaccine showed no correlation with increased cardiovascular risks or adverse complications.
