Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Even after months of support, U.S. President Trump urged, for the first time publicly, Israel to contain its military actions in Gaza. During a meeting in New Jersey on Sunday, Trump stated that the U.S. wants the violence to “stop as quickly as possible.” This is a departure from his previous stance, which supported Israel and held Hamas responsible, while Netanyahu’s Israel was practically an ally.  

Europe Condemns Israel In Unison

European countries seem to have started expressing opposition more vehemently. Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared that he fails to see the logic behind inflicting such suffering on civilians. Italy joined the outrage, with their Foreign Minister stating that Hamas must surrender Gaza and Israel should also suspend their raids while calling for a ceasefire.  

Collective Western Discontent and Measures

Britain, Canada, and France have recently come together with a collective statement proclaiming Israel’s military aggression as “wholly disproportionate.” Although acknowledging Israel’s right to defend itself, they warned about possible consequences if the assault continues. The UK, in a bid to exercise control, has suspended negotiations over a trade deal with Israel, as well as imposing sanctions on Israeli settlers accused of violence in the West Bank, marking a shift in British policy after years.

France Sets A New Meeting On The Peace Conference

Saudi Arabia is working with France to set up a peace conference by June. The main topic will be prioritizing the creation of a state for the Palestinians which serves as a cardinal point for Netanyahu’s Israel. This is turning out to be France's most important step in the middle East region while bearing in mind intelligence relations with Israel.

America has extended the military sponsored help given to Israel. Worries are also increasing regarding a new food distribution scheme which has the potential to increase internal displacement.

Concerns Regarding Israel’s Balance of Power

Experts are warning Israel might be heading towards an international diplomatic black hole. Yediot Ahronot Journalist Itamar Eichner pointed out that even friendly countries are now discussing implementing sanctions — something never witnessed before. A robust lack of U.S. support has been deemed particularly dangerous for Israel's standing in the world.

It seems there is global growing fatigue regarding the ongoing clash turning into an 18-month war. As a result, Israel could suffer serious harms to their diplomatic relationships.
