Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Indian government is intensifying its focus on the eight states of Northeast India, transforming its "Act East Policy" from a strategic vision into a tangible reality on the ground. According to Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary, the region is not just a geographical area but an "integral part of our national framework," with a development agenda that is now a top priority for the central government.
Speaking during a recent visit to Sikkim, Chaudhary, who serves as the Minister of State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Education, emphasized a holistic approach to the region's growth. The government's strategy is centered on massive upgrades to infrastructure—including roads, railways, and air connectivity—alongside a major push in education and skill development aimed at empowering the local population.
During his tour of Sikkim, the Minister met with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang to align state and central efforts. He also visited key educational and vocational institutions like the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Rangpo, and a polytechnic in Pakyong. These visits underscore the government's focus on creating a robust ecosystem for learning and innovation directly within the Northeast.
A central goal of this renewed push is to create vibrant, sustainable opportunities for the youth. By fostering entrepreneurship and building a skilled workforce, the government aims to enable young people to find fulfilling careers in their home states, reducing the need to migrate to other parts of the country for work.
This comprehensive development plan seeks to unlock the immense potential of the Northeast, leveraging its unique cultural heritage and natural beauty while fully integrating it into India's economic and social mainstream. The message from the Centre is clear: the era of policy is being replaced by an era of accelerated, on-the-ground implementation.
