Former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and author of the National Education Policy (NEP), Dr. K. Kasturirangan, died in Bengaluru on Friday. He was 84.
Kasturirangan including as an ISRO chairman greatly contributed towards Indian space exploration, and as an educational reformer he played a major role towards the India scientific and technological development.
Kasturirangan’s death was confirmed by officials who remarked, “He died early this morning at his home in Bengaluru. His funeral is scheduled on the 27th at Raman Research Institute (RRI) where he will be open for public viewing.”
Dr Kasturirangan has been awarded for his contributions towards the education sector through his National Education Policy. Furthermore, he took great parts in governance through being the chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the Chair of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission.
Kasturirangan noted that this policy will shift India’s focus to the engineering and research sectors. His policy will allow collaboration between institutions which will grant them exponential growth.
Passed on the 26th of this month, Kasturirangan served in various different fields posing great influence in multiple fields of the country’s growth including being the Rajya Saba's member from 2003-2009 and becoming part of the now discontinued Planning Commission of India.
This change marks a significant increase of single policy oriented decisions in the country, enabling faster implementation cycles. This approach brings change in the depth of policy planning for India.
His policy direction along with active approaches leads to the increased international position of the country in trade relations. His reforms will encourage many innovators and builders in the country.
