PUNE: The split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has also impacted the Pawar family’s Diwali celebrations and for the first time, Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar are holding separate events in the Pune district. In a post on X, Ajit Pawar said he will hold a Diwali Padwa (festival) celebration at his native village Katewadi in Baramati at 6.30 pm on Saturday, where he will meet NCP functionaries. NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar’s Diwali celebrations will be centered around his Govindbaug residence, where family members, party functionaries, and friends have been gathering for years on the occasion of Diwali.

What did Supriya Sule say?

On the issue, Sharad Pawar’s daughter and Lok Sabha member from Baramati Supriya Sule said that she was not aware of the event organised by the Deputy Chief Minister. However, she said that everyone waits for the function organized at Govindbagh. She said, “Since people from across the state come to congratulate Pawar Sahab, we eagerly wait for this happy day.”

Diwali celebration before elections

Just ahead of the assembly elections, Diwali celebrations are underway, which will see an interesting contest between Ajit Pawar and his nephew and NCP(SP) candidate Yugendra Pawar in Baramati. During this year’s Lok Sabha elections in Baramati, the Pawar family was once again divided on party lines. Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar was pitted against sitting MP Sule.

Voting on November 20, results on November 23

The NCP split in July last year after Ajit Pawar and eight MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde government. The Election Commission later recognized the deputy chief minister’s camp as the real NCP and allotted it the ‘clock’ symbol, while the Sharad Pawar camp was renamed NCP(SP) and allotted its symbol ‘man blowing a trumpet’. The Maharashtra Assembly election is scheduled to be held on November 20, while the results will be declared on November 23.
