Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Residents in low-lying areas of Prayagraj can breathe a collective sigh of relief as the water levels of both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have started to decline, easing concerns of potential flooding.

According to the latest reports from the irrigation department's flood control room, there has been a noticeable drop in the water levels at all major monitoring points. The Ganga recorded a decline at both Phaphamau and Chhatnag, while the Yamuna's level also fell at Naini.

To put this in perspective, the official danger level for the region is 84.73 meters, so the current levels are still well below the flood-risk threshold.

The recent rise in water levels, which had sparked concern among locals, was attributed to the release of water from several upstream dams, including those at Hathnikund, Narora, and Haridwar. The receding water indicates that the impact of these releases is now subsiding.

Despite the welcome decline, officials are not letting their guard down. They are continuing to monitor the situation closely around the clock from the flood control room to ensure they are prepared to respond quickly if the situation changes.
