Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Train travel across Uttar Pradesh is set to become significantly faster and more reliable as the North Eastern Railway (NER) enters the final phase of a monumental infrastructure project. A massive 773-kilometer stretch of railway track connecting Gorakhpur to Mathura is being upgraded through track doubling and tripling, a move that promises to slash travel times and eliminate chronic delays for millions of passengers.

This ambitious undertaking addresses a major bottleneck in one of India's busiest rail corridors. For years, vast sections of the route operated on a single track, forcing trains to wait for long periods at stations to allow opposing traffic to pass. This created a ripple effect of delays that impacted schedules across the network.

The project involves two key upgrades:

Track Tripling: The high-density 137-km section between Gorakhpur and Barabanki is being converted from a double line to a triple line.

Track Doubling: The remaining 636-km route, covering the sections from Barabanki to Mathura via Lucknow, Kanpur, and Kasganj, is being doubled from a single line.

According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for NER, the work is progressing rapidly and is nearing completion. Once finished, the upgraded line will allow for the simultaneous movement of trains in both directions without interruption. This will not only improve the punctuality of passenger and express trains but will also significantly boost the efficiency of freight transport through the region.

The upgrade is a game-changer for connectivity, benefiting passengers traveling from Uttar Pradesh to states like Bihar, West Bengal, and across the Northeast. By eliminating long waits and increasing the line's capacity, the North Eastern Railway is paving the way for a new era of smoother, faster, and more dependable train journeys.
