This large gathering for the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani comes just days after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam injured a tourist couple, highlighting the pilgrims' determination to uphold their traditions.
The annual festival, celebrated on Jyeshtha Ashtami, is one of the most important religious events for Kashmiri Pandits, who travel from across India and abroad to pay obeisance to the presiding deity, Goddess Ragnya Devi. Despite the unsettling news of the recent attack on tourists in another part of the Kashmir Valley, the spirit of devotion at Kheer Bhawani remains undeterred.
Pilgrims arriving at the temple expressed that their faith is stronger than any fear. Many see their presence as a statement of peace, unity, and an unwavering connection to their roots and religious heritage.
