Many are wishing for the grave of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to be taken out from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Fadnavis has claimed. Nevertheless, he stated, the grave is an ASI protected monument and its removal is an affair for the law to deal with. As Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he is quite familiar with the details of the controversy surrounding the grave of Aurangzeb and the implications of removing it from an area that has since renamed itself.
On Saturday Fadnavis replied to a request made by MP Udayanraje Bhosale from the BJP. The MP sought the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where it is situated and Bhosale undeniably feels his heritage as a direct descendant of Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj affords him this right. Fadnavis explained his response by saying that the law does need to be changed since there was a protective clause added to it by the previous Congress Government which ‘protected’ the monument.
Fadnavis spoke on the side of the ‘Gurmat Samagam’ festival where he performed to celebrate the Bundh of Shree Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th guru of Sikhism for religious teachings and warrior training. Alongside him, other dignitaries were present as well to adorn a traditional Punjabi Kadha and Patka as a part of the maneuvers. Recently Fadnavis's comments were radical but they had stemmed from disagreement with Shamsuddin, a former MP who was quite well-known and praised Aurangzeb as well when he was in Parliament. He even had received a suspension from the Maharashtra assembly that is set to continue until March 26.
As per reports, the tomb of Aurangzeb has turned into a political matter in Maharashtra since the launching of the Vicky Kaushal movie ‘Chhaava’ which shows the capture and killing of Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
