In a powerful speech that left no room for interpretation, India's Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has sent one of the strongest messages to Pakistan in recent times. Speaking at a public rally, he made it clear that while India doesn't seek to intimidate anyone, it will not hesitate to deliver a powerful response if provoked.
What stood out most, however, was his reference to the accidental BrahMos missile launch in March 2022 that landed in Pakistan. Calling it "Operation Sindoor," he described the incident as just a "trailer."
The Accidental Firing, Reframed
Bringing up the sensitive incident, Mr. Singh didn't mince words. He explained that the BrahMos missile, known for its incredible speed, had accidentally been fired and landed in Pakistan. He pointed out that it traveled so fast that even advanced surveillance systems, including American satellites, apparently couldn't track its trajectory.
By framing this mishap as a "trailer" and giving it a name, he wasn't just talking about a technical glitch. He was sending a clear signal about India's military capabilities and its resolve. He emphasized the missile's reach, stating bluntly that every inch of Pakistan is within the range of the BrahMos.
A Clear Policy: "We Won't Start It, But We Will Finish It"
Rajnath Singh was quick to balance his strong words by reiterating India's long-standing defence policy. He stressed that India has never been the aggressor and has no intention of attacking any country first.
However, he said that the days of India being seen as weak are over. He referenced the surgical strikes and the Balakot airstrike as proof that if anyone dares to threaten India's security, the response will be swift and decisive. The message was simple: India will not start a conflict, but if one is forced upon it, the country has the strength and the will to cross the border and finish it.
This speech goes beyond typical political rhetoric. It serves as a direct and public declaration of India's current defence posture—a combination of restraint and readiness to act with overwhelming force when necessary.
