Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim, popular Indian television actors have come under fire on social media after a controversial post by Shoaib on Instagram after the Pahalgam terror attack. His post “a new vlog coming soon” garnered backlash as it came off as blithesome and uncaring.
Timeline and Context:
The couple had been on a vacation in Kashmir and had just boarded their flight to Delhi a few hours before the terrorists opened fire on tourists at Baisaran meadow close to Pahalgam. This shocking incident saw the death of more than twenty-six people, two foreigners and an Indian Navy officer. It was one of the bloodiest attacks in J&K since 2019.

Shoaib took to Instagram ahead of the couple’s transfer to explain that they, as well as Dipika, were all safe. “Hum sab safe hain... we reached Delhi safely,” he assured followers, before ending with, “New vlog coming soon.” Just two days before the attack, Dipika had shared photos and videos from the trip showcasing her exploring the area, well in the middle of the trip.
Public Reaction and Backlash
The couple's nonchalant approach didn’t sit well with the general population where social media users, especially on Reddit, expressed their anger. Many found it appalling that the couple displayed such tone-deaf messaging and criticized Shoaib for promoting entertainment content at a time of national mourning. The comments were harsh both in disbelief and condemnation, with one user labeling the post “self-centered” and “insensitive.”
“No He is still talking about vlog coming soon—is he mad or what?,” one user wrote. Another added, “Do these people actually exist that YouTubers become so delusional and insensitive at such tragic times?”
Celebrities Respond To The Attack
Alongside the public's reaction, other public figures shared their emotionally charged responses to the tragedy, with Hina Khan having recently visited Kashmir. Heartbroken over the events, she turned to Instagram where she vented with the words, “PAHALGAM WHY WHY WHY.”
Amid nationwide grieving, an outcry flooded for more thought-out responses from influencers and celebrities who as heavily connected and those that the public feel are most disassociated with such incidents.
