Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Based on the real-time statistics from the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), on June 11, Delhi's peak power demand hit 8,231 megawatts (MW) at 10:55 PM, which is the maximum for the summer season so far.
As a result, energy consumption soared in the Capital. This year, the city is expected to breach the 9000 MW mark, setting a new record. In 2024, Delhi recorded an all-time high peak demand of 8656 MW while in the previous year, 2023, we witnessed the breach of the 8000 MW mark for the very first time.
While the capital remains engulfed under a red alert warning, temperatures are predicted to soar in the upper range of 40.9°C to 45°C in various regions thus the warning will still be retained.
Moreover, the heat index, which measures the perceived temperature considering the measure of humidity, estimated dangerously at 51.9°C. Hence, increasing health risks alongside the need to cool off.

Delhi Facing Challenges with Sustained Power Supply
Increased temperatures are exacerbating the pressure placed on Diwali’s power infrastructure. The use of air conditioning units, coolers, and fans is a large contributor to the surging electricity load. Officials are managing load shedding and power supply to prevent blackouts and avoid voltage fluctuations.
With the current heatwave likely carrying over into the latter half of June, experts project a significant increase in power demand.
