At Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi, operations were crippled on Saturday, with flights exceeding 350 being delay due to air traffic congestion along with the aftermath of a dust storm on Friday evening.

Average departure delay was reported by Flightradar24 to be over 40 minutes. This issue stemmed from bad weather the night before, as well as the outspill from the former bad weather.

Airlines and DIAL Respond Amid Passengers’ Unrest

DIAL confirmed through X (Formerly Twiiter) that:

“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are improving; however, a few flights are still impacted due to last night’s weather conditions. Our on-ground teams and all stakeholders are working together to mitigate inconvenience.”

IndiGo Airlines has put out a report at 1:32pm stating:

“Delhi's ongoing congestion is the reason that flights are currently held for takeoff and landing clearance.”

Currently, of the three runways in operation, one is closed due to maintenance works being carried out.

Passengers Express Anger Over Flight Delays and Operational Issues

Angry passengers begun posting their experiences on social media some time ago.

One user remarked “Most mismanaged, misinformed world-class international airport—New Delhi… Worse than a bus stand.”

Another comment read “Our flight from Srinagar to Mumbai via Delhi had a stop over in Delhi but because of a standing storm was diverted to Chandigarh. We only got back to Delhi at 11 in the night.”

The other users also criticized the airlines for not serving meals because the enforced delays were in excess of two hours and the rules clearly indicate the food must be served during such delays.

Tech Infrastructure Sustains Tier One Damage And Lowered Capability In Delhi-NCR Area Region

A Friday evening dust storm caused tremendous damage from a tree branch and power line collision as well as electrical blackouts in regions such as Narela, Bawana, Badli, and Mangolpuri all while the NCR was under lockdown. Countless local roads in a variety of localities were rendered impassable due to surplus fallen vegetation and assorted rubble while blocked by dirt.

This follows the second storm over a two day period which also brought moderate precipitation to certain areas which the infrastructure further boots transportation standards.
