Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Following a serious landing incident in Ahmedabad, the "black box" from an Air India Express Boeing 737 is being sent to the United States for a detailed technical investigation. The move is a critical step in understanding why the aircraft's tail struck the runway during its landing.

The flight, arriving from Bengaluru, suffered significant damage in the incident, prompting an immediate investigation by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). To ensure the most thorough analysis, the AAIB has decided to collaborate with its American counterpart, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

This decision was made because the aircraft was manufactured by Boeing, a US-based company. Sending the flight recorders to the NTSB allows investigators to leverage the manufacturer's deep expertise and advanced facilities to decode the flight data. This international cooperation is standard protocol for serious incidents involving US-manufactured aircraft.

The so-called "black box" is actually two separate devices, both painted bright orange for easy recovery. The Flight Data Recorder (FDR) logs hundreds of parameters, such as the plane's altitude, airspeed, and engine performance. The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) captures all conversations and sounds from the cockpit. Together, they provide investigators with a precise timeline and invaluable clues about the moments leading up to an incident.

In response to the tail strike, India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has also launched its own inquiry. As a standard precautionary measure, the pilots who were operating the flight have been de-rostered, or temporarily suspended from flying duties, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The data retrieved from the black box will be central to determining the exact cause of the incident. The ultimate goal of the investigation is not only to understand what went wrong but also to implement safety measures that can help prevent similar events from happening in the future.
