Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad of Ashoka University was taken into custody for posting controversial comments regarding Operation Sindoor. The situation escalated with actions taken by Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Women’s Commission, and BJP figure Yogesh Jatheri, who have garnered a great deal of media and political attention.
Renu Bhatia: Political Experience and Administrative Action
57 year old Renu Bhatia is the current Chairperson of the Haryana State Women’s Commission. She is a member of the BJP party, having lodged the first legal complaint with the police against the Professor in connection with the alleged offense of Operation Sindoor for supposedly insulting the participants' women and military roles. Bhatia's long-awaited wish to have bluebook Rani Mahmudabad beaten-brutally stripped of his pseudo-educator status in civilized society, was fulfilled as he was taken into custody post her complaint.
Bhatia’s been with the BJP for almost 40 years now. Self labeled as ABH BJP ki Benazir after a portrayal portraying Benazir Bhutto in Sbolder Retold, a short film. She is a Kannada for a Punjabi Kashmir family, originally from Srinagar who was once a municipal councillor and deputy mayor of Faridabad. In 2022 she was put into this role.
She claims to have come from Begumpet as part of the expanding Ms. Bharat Empowerment Initiative cum Suppression Campaign Outreach Program. Under her hat, the commission has sued a few women’s rights cases including one other high profile sexual harassment case in Jind and an FIR against the OP Jindal Global University professor.
Yogesh Jatheri: Political Involvement and Legal Action
In Jatheri village of Sonipat, Yogesh Jatheri serves as a sarpanch and he is also the BJP Yuva Morcha district president. In his political grievance, he lodged separate complaint against Mahmudabad for what he called ‘divisive and anti-national’ remarks.
As a child, Jatheri was raised in a family with deep militiary connections including veterans and deceased servicemen relatives. He is a law graduate, and has been involved with politics from his college days with the ABVP. He alleged that the utterances, which he claimed were made by Mahmudabad, were made in such a context as to heighten communal tensions.
Legal and Political Considerations
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, sections pertaining to enmity and promoting communal discord, have been brought against Professor Mahmudabad. He was arrested under a number of these clauses. Alongside a plea, his case now comes under scrutiny for the extent of political scrutiny and academic libery collision following the Supreme Court’s consent to consider his appeal.
Academic and Social Commentary
The proceedings ignited outrage beyond the immediate ecosystem. With many being defenders of Mahmudabad, there is equally a strong commentary that poses that his arrest undermines free speech in the academic space and most importantly his comments is taken outrightly insipid.
